Things to know
Attendance
All Absences need a written excuse or doctors note. You can send them in to the teacher or upload them into your Parent Portal.
Students are allowed five excused absences. Anything more will be considered unexcused. Special circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.
Students who come to school after 11:15 will be considered absent that day and need an excuse.
Early students sign out ends at 3:15. We ask that you only sign your child or children out early for appointments or family emergencies. If this becomes an issue, the attendance team will reach out for a conference. Five early releases will count as an absence.
Too many absences can lead to the student repeating a grade.
Please refer to the Student Code of Conduct here: Student Code of Conduct - Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (sccpss.com)
- Good attendance makes a difference in a child's learning, especially in these early elementary years.
- Parents are allowed 5 parent excuses per year. Always send in your child's excuses, doctor notes, etc.
- Students are considered truant when they have more than ten (10) unexcused absences.
- It is important for students to also arrive to school on time and stay for the entire day!
- The goal is for students to miss no more than 7 days per year if they are enrolled for the entire 180 days of school. This means they will have been present more than 96% of days enrolled. Absent 91% - 95% of days enrolled is cause for concern. If a child misses more than 10% of days enrolled, this begins to negatively impact them academically.
Bell Times
School starts at 9:15 and ends at 3:45.
After 9:15, your student is considered late, and a tardy slip must be filled out. After five tardies, an unexcused absence may be given.
Early release ends at 3:15.
At SWES, we teach from bell to bell. Late arrivals and early pick-ups cause a disruption to the school day and students can miss out on instructional time.
